Poxbox is a physical box for the public to deposit outgoing
mail intended for collection and for postage by the country’s respective postal
service. In Malaysia, mails are
collected, processed and delivered by the national postal service, Pos Malaysia
Berhad.
Various types of post boxes are available in Malaysia :
· Lamp
box which derives its name from the fact that they were designed to be affixed
to lamp posts or mounted on poles.
·
Pillar box which is a free-standing post box.
· Wall
box which are set into a wall or brick pillar.
In Malaysia, there are different post boxes for different
types of mails, such as regular post, air mail and PosExpres, as well as for
local and out-of-town addresses.
All post boxes in Malaysia are painted in red, with the
exception of PosExpres post boxes which are painted yellow.
The post boxes depicted in the stamps show the changes in
the design of the post boxes from the time of the British administration until
the era of independence and leading to the current period. The earliest post boxes manufactured in Great
Britain were produced with the initials of the ruling monarch topped with the
crown or royal coat of arms.
These post boxes were replaced by more current post box
designs, which feathure the Malaysian Coat of Arms and subsequently PosMalaysia
logo.
The post boxes featured in the stamps are found at :
1.
Bukit Bendera, Pulau Pinang
2.

3.

4.
