Malaysia 2013 Celebrating Abilities of Children with Disabilities : Colours of My World

Coloiur of My World was launched in conjunction with the 5^th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (  CRPD ) on 8^th May 2013 to encourage greater public understanding, acceptance and inclusion for children with disabilities.

Organised by Kakikreatif, Pos Malaysia and UNICEF, the Colour of My World art contest received original masterpieces from some 120 children between the ages of 13 and 17 in Malaysia, diagnosed with a physical, sensory or developmental disability.

Colours of My World is an eye opening way of seeing the world through the eyes of children with disabilities.  It is also a critical reminder that what is most important are the abilities that defines these children – not their disabilities.

The winning entries for each of the three categories form a set of special commemorative stamps and first day cover to celebrate Universal Children’s Day 213 on 20^th November.  Each winner also receives a cash award of RM10,000 from Pos Malaysia.

Malaysia 2011 Children's Pet

60sen · Rabbit

Rabbit have always been popular as pets, especially among chldren.  They never fail to amuse the litte onew with their cute and cuddly looks and behavior.  However, animals such as rabbits that are kept in cages need a little more attention.  Since they are kept in enclosures, it would be more considerate if they are allowed room to move freely.  Rabbits should never be kept in small pen or cage for a long period of time.  Their enclosure should be big enough so that the rabbit can easily hop and run about and hide when it wants to.  Animals kept at home should be provided with a sense of being in their natural habitats.

Another important aspect is that rabbits are physically too delicate to be handled roughly.  Rabbit take some time to get used to their new surroundings and new companions.  When these creatures feel frightened, they become defensive by exhibiting behaviors of biting, scratching , or running away.  Therefore it is important to help children understand how to care for rabbits and understand its needs and requirements.  Rabbit are also prone to a few diseases that may be difficult to treat.  Although rabbits require less grooming than dogs and cats, proper diet and hygiene of their feeding and bedding are will ensure a healthy and happy rabbit.

Aloof as they may seem, cats are actually playful but well-mannered creatures.  Cats like to be pampered by humans.  Cats show their affection to theri owners not only though purring, but also by pawing your arm, leg or elsewhere on you body.   They like to have ‘communication’ with humans.   Cats are also avid spectators.  They love to see what is going on around htem.  They do this by jumping to high places like to sofa, cabinet or table to keep a watchful eye their surroundings.

RM1 · Dog

Dogs are known as man’s best friend due to their loyalty tot he owner.  Dogs are lovable, fun and playful.   They love all outdoor exercises especially playing ‘tetch’.  There are a wide variety of breeds with different advantages and disadvantages.  However, the correct breed of dog depends on the size of owner’s house.
