Singapore 2021 A Tribute to Frontline Heroes

On the 6th of August, 2021, Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) launched a set of stamps as a tribute to Singapore’s frontline workers. In celebration of Singapore’s 56th year of independence, the stamps recognise the diverse groups of frontline workers who have pressed on to serve Singapore in the past year despite the unprecedented challenges they faced.

While healthcare workers have long been recognised as the face of frontline workers since COVID-19 disrupted our everyday lives, there have been many other groups of frontliners who continue to keep the community safe and Singapore’s economy going.

Designed in the form of sketches, the set of 10 stamps features (in sequence) a doctor, nurse, swabber, teacher, bus captain, postman, food deliveryman, cleaner, hawker and supermarket staff.

The stamp set also includes a miniature sheet, featuring a montage of these frontline workers.

The design is inspired by the joint efforts of the society against the deadly disease. At the center is a red geometric pattern featuring the Chinese character 众 (meaning "the public").

The first stamp has pictures of people who worked on the frontlines during the lockdown, including medical workers, scientists, police, community workers, volunteers and soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), recognizing their contributions. The backdrop has patterns of  airplanes, cargo ships, trucks and high-speed railways which were deployed to provide emergency assistance to Hubei Province.

The second stamp features a collage image of medical workers, equipped with personal protection gear. In the background is the renowned Huanghelou building, an ancient structure and landmark of Wuhan City.
