Federation of Malaya

  Federation of Malaya

From 1946 to 1948, the eleven Malay states formed a single British crown colony known as the Malayan Union.  Due to opposition from Malay nationalists, the Union was disbanded and replaced by the Federation of Malaya, which restored the symbolic positions of the rulers of the Malay states.

Within the Federation, while the Malay states were protectorates of the United Kingdom, Penang and Malacca remained British colonial territories. Like the Malayan Union before it, the Federation did not include Singapore.

The Federation of Malaya Agreement was signed on 21 January 1948 at King House by the Malay rulers, and by Sir Edward Gent as the representative of the British government. The Agreement superseded the Agreement creating the Malayan Union, and prepared for the establishment of the Federation of Malaya on 1 February 1948.

The Federation became independent from British colonial rule and became an independent member of the Commonwealth of Nations on 31 August 1957.

In 1963, the Federation was reconstituted as "Malaysia" when it federated with the British territories of Singapore, Sarawak, and North Borneo.  Singapore separated from Malaysia to become an independent republic on 9 August 1965.

Malaysia 2013 Celebrating Abilities of Children with Disabilities : Colours of My World

Coloiur of My World was launched in conjunction with the 5th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (  CRPD ) on 8th May 2013 to encourage greater public understanding, acceptance and inclusion for children with disabilities.

Organised by Kakikreatif, Pos Malaysia and UNICEF, the Colour of My World art contest received original masterpieces from some 120 children between the ages of 13 and 17 in Malaysia, diagnosed with a physical, sensory or developmental disability.

Colours of My World is an eye opening way of seeing the world through the eyes of children with disabilities.  It is also a critical reminder that what is most important are the abilities that defines these children – not their disabilities.

The winning entries for each of the three categories form a set of special commemorative stamps and first day cover to celebrate Universal Children’s Day 213 on 20th November.  Each winner also receives a cash award of RM10,000 from Pos Malaysia.

The International Federation of Non-Government Organizations for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse (IFNGO) comprises Non-Government Organizations all over the world engaged in anti-drug and substance abuse activities.

In November 2011, the 30th Anniversary of IFNGO was celebrated in conjunction with the 24th IFNGO World Conference which was hosted by ANCD, Australia and co-hosted and organized by PEMADAM Malaysia and convened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The "Yes to Life, No to Drug" stamp collection features the positive outlook for lives that are free from drugs and other substance abuse.
