South Africa ( RSA ) 1987 The Bible

South Africa issued a set of three stamps commemorating the Bible Society of South Africa. These stamps, released on November 19, 1987, featured iconic biblical artworks and were printed on phosphorescent paper using offset printing.

16c Stamp: Depicts the Bible in 75 languages, showcasing the global reach of the Bible.
30c Stamp: Features Rembrandt’s painting "The Feast of Belshazzar" from Daniel 5:25.
50c Stamp: Illustrates Rembrandt’s "Matthew and the Angel," based on Matthew 9:9.
40c Stamp: "The Word of God," featuring the Bible in Greek and Hebrew.

These stamps were issued to honor the Bible Society's efforts in promoting Bible distribution and literacy.

The 40c stamp was initially planned to be part of this set, titled "The Word of God," featuring the Bible in Greek and Hebrew. However, it was withdrawn before release due to religious objections. Despite its withdrawal, some copies were sold at smaller post offices, making it a rare and valuable item among collectors.

The 40c stamp is considered one of the most valuable South African stamps of the past century
