Indonesia 2011 Traditional Textile

Batik Parang Garuda of Yogyakarta

Batik Parang Garuda is a traditional Indonesian batik motif that symbolizes power, leadership, and protection through the image of the Garuda, a mythical bird from Hindu-Buddhist tradition.
Historically, this motif was associated with the Javanese royal courts and was worn only by kings and nobles, as it represented authority and moral responsibility in leadership. The design often features stylized Garuda wings arranged symmetrically, creating a strong and majestic appearance, and is commonly colored in royal tones such as brown (sogan), black, indigo, and white.
Today, Batik Parang Garuda is no longer restricted to royalty and is worn at formal or ceremonial occasions as a symbol of respect for Indonesian cultural heritage and national identity.
