The historical diplomatic ties between Malaysia and
China were established about 40 years ago when Malaysia 2nd Prime
Minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein sent his greetings in a letter though Tan Sri
Michael Chen, the Secretary General of the Alliance to the Chinese Premier,
Zhou EnLai when Malaysia participated in a pingpong tournament in China.
His legacy was continued by his son, Malaysia 5th Prime Minister, Dato’
Sri Mohd Najid , visited China
in 2012 and was presented with a pair of giant pandas to reflect the enhanced
relationship between the two countries.
The pair of gain pandas, FuWa and FengYi, were given
Malaysian names. The male is named XingXing, and the female
LiangLiang.
A panda complex in Zoo Negara was built to exhibit
the pandas. The facility is kept at
below 24°C to mimic their natural habitat. It also equipped with an exercise area,
holding den, laboratory, veterinary clinic, incubator room and a monitoring
room.
The miniature sheet was printed on a special paper with fibers texture with security features.
