Every year on 9th October, we celebrate
World Post Day, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal
Union ( UPU ) in 1874 in Berne, Swiss.
It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan
in 1969.
World Post Day is celebrated in more than 150
countries to create a global awareness of the roles and importance of the postal
industry in the everyday lives of people and business, and its contribution to
the social and economic development of its respective countries.
The World Post Day stamp issue features the
official World Post Day 2015 logo. The logo
is a symbolization of two well-known icons of the postal and communication
industry – the traditional letter morphing into a carrier pigeon taking
flight. The letter evokes the
fundamental values and mainstay of the postal industry, whereas the digitized
lines shaped on the bird is a representation of the modernization of post and
postal industry as it continuously evolves to meet the demands of the
modern
world.
